Seafighter


The U.S. Navy experimental ship Sea Fighter (FSF-1) arrived in Narragansett bay on the afternoon of 16 April 2011 bound for the Jamestown Anchorage. She was built in 2005 to test and evaluate hydrodynamic performance, structural behavior, mission flexibility, and propulsion system efficiency of high speed vessels. The data gathered will benefit future Navy ships constructed withn the Navy's Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program. .

A Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) is defined as a relatively small surface vessel built expressly for operations in the littoral zone (Otherwise known as close to shore). It is meant to be an agile, stealthy, surface combatant capable of defeating threats in littoral areas.Further information can be found at:
