Built as the YTB 803 "Nanticoke" her keel was laid down, 26 May 1969, at Peterson Builders, Sturgeon Bay, WI. she was launched on the 14th of December 1969. Delivered to the Navy on June 21st 1970, and placed in service as Nanticoke (YTB-803). Her length overall is 109(ft), her molded length is 102(ft) with a beam of 29(ft) and a draft of 16.3(ft). She is 243 Gross Registered Tons and 72 Net Registered Tons, her draft loaded is 13.5(ft) and her draft light is 12 (ft). After her delivery, she was allocated to the 12th Naval District at San Francisco, CA. The date she was placed out of service is unknown, she was struck from the Naval Register, on the 9th of November 1999. Sold by the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service (DRMS) on the 30th of October 2002 to Nixs Mate Equipment Co. of Salem, New Hampshire for 311,000 and renamed Canal Protector. She was sold to McAllister Towing and Transportation and renamed Robert E. McAllister.

In 2005 she was rebuild, her single Fairbanks-Morse main engine was removed and replaced with two Caterpillar 3516B main engines. Her single rudder and propeller where removed and in their place two Schottel SRP 1012 "Z-Drives" were installed. Her generators were upgraded to John Deere PowerTech - 99kw EPA Tier II Emissions Compliant. She was outfitted with 6-71 with Goulds fire pump rated at 2,000 Gallons Per Minute, that are tied in with two fire monitors rated for 1,500 gallon foam capacity. A Jon Rie InterTech Series 200 winch was added on the bow, equipped with 450 '(ft) of 7 "(in) Neutron Rope. Her underwater submarine fendering was kept. She can carry 20,000 gallons of fuel oil, 710 gallons of lube oil and 1,290 gallons of potable water. She is assigned to McAllister's Baltimore, Maryland fleet.
