The Brandywine was Vane Brothers first Articulated tug and barge ATB and its barge Double Skin 141 were built in 2006 by the Manitowoc Marine Group, owners of both Marinette Marine Corporation in Marinette, Wisconsin and Bay Shipbuilding Company in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The Unit was completed in December of 2006. She was designed by Robert Hill of Ocean Tug and Barge.

Brandywine is 215 gross tons, and measures 123 (ft) long, 38 (ft) beam, and 22 (ft) deep. The Brandywine features twin EMD 12-710-G7B engines, generating approximately 6,000 horsepower. When the Brandywine and the Double Skin 141 are "Pinned in", she measures in at nearly 600 (ft) in length.
