Chesapeake 1000

The Chesapeake 1000 arived in Narragansett Bay on 21 November under tow by tug Meghan Ann. It will be used to raise a 350 ton barge that sank just under the east tower of the Newport Bridge in a late October 2011 storm. The barge is upside down in almsot 100 feet of water and will present some challanges to raise. Once it is raised, it will lifted onto a platform barged and hauled away. The Chesapeake 1000 (owned by DonJon Marine Co. of Hillside N.J.)is the largest heavy lift crane of is type on the East coast of the U.S. Information on the Chesapeake's capabilitities can be found at: http://www.donjon.com/ches1000.htm
